Diatomaceous Earth vs. Statin drugs

I was doing a bit or reading on Diatomaceous Earth this morning and ran into some interesting information at

Diatomaceous Earth

In 2013, a new “guidelines” report was prepared by a panel of “experts” who volunteered their time, and is ostensibly based on an analysis of randomized controlled trials. Not surprisingly, the panel members are affiliated with more than 50 different drug companies, many of which have a financial interest in the outcome of this report. One of the authors even has stock in a medical malpractice firm.

According to the New York Times, several committee members ended up dropped out of this investigative panel because they were “unhappy with the direction the committee was going.”So why did I find that interesting? In 2012, American spent 19.2 billion dollars on statin drugs. The medical  industry says 1/4 of all American over 45 are on statin drugs. It appears that is not enough profit for the Statin sellers.

Last I checked, a 50 pound bag of DE cost $27.65 at the local farm store and, if you read the link above, naturally controls cholesterol, and many other things in the house, garden and on the farm!

This farmer’s reasoning (me) goes something like this…instead of having the sheriff (Statin Drugs) 1/4 mile down the county road
making sure only one fire truck is allowed to show up at your burning house (how Statin drugs work), Diatomaceous Earth makes sure no combustibles are stored near the wood stove, the frayed cord on the fan you use to move air is replaced instead of exposed to the carpet, etc. (DE keeps the fire from starting so that the need for firemen is lessened).

Choesterol shows up when we have inflammation. As we age, we naturally have more inflammation.

I have used it for years to control flies in summer and lice in winter on my animals.

In the human section it says you can Lower your Cholesterol by 50-75 points simply by …Consuming 1 tablespoon per day mixed into your water or juice

Diatomaceous Earth’s Many Uses

Insect control

1)                Dusting on flowers plants bushes and trees

2)                Apply a 2 “ border around the foundation of your house

3)                Sprinkling in and around animal and pet housing

4)                Pouring on and down ant hills

5)                Spreading over large areas with a fertilizer or duster (wear a face mask)

6)                Sprinkling in carpet, furniture, etc. to kill infestations

7)                Mixing w/water and spraying or whitewashing infested areas

8)                Adding to stored grain or food stuffs

9)                Dusting in studding during construction to create a permanent bug guard

Pets and Livestock

1)                Dusting on the coats of animals for flea tick and lice control

2)                Adding to food each day for worm and parasite control

3)                Adding to food for joint, skin and hair coat health

4)                Adding to feed to kill fly larva in manure

5)                Apply to kennel/stable/barn area for pest and odor control

Human use  Most take 1 Tablespoon of DE per day in Water or other liquid.

1)                Sore Joints feel better

2)                Lower Cholesterol (usually 50-75 points)

3)                Lowering High Blood pressure

4)                Keeping blood sugar levels stable

5)                More Energy

6)                Healthier skin. Softer, less itching, faster healing, psoriasis gone

7)                Stronger and healthier nails

8)                Calms nerves and better sleep

9)                Aid in weight loss

10)           Cleansing digestive tract of parasites

11)           A good source of Silica which helps our joints

12)           mix DE with water to make a paste to instantly stop itching from bug bites!

13)           Colonoscopies have shown that they are “clean as a whistle” and appear to be in no danger of colon cancer.

More specifics of the Lowering Cholesterol study…

Diatomaceous earth lowers blood cholesterol concentrations.

Wachter H, Lechleitner M., Artner-Dworzak E, Hausen A, Jarosch E, Widner B, Patsch J, Pfeiffe K, Fuchs D

Institute of Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Innsbruck, Fritz Pregl Strasse 3, Innsbruck, A-6020, Austria.

In this study a potential influence of diatomaceous earth to lower blood cholesterol was investigated.

During 12 weeks we monitored serum lipid concentrations in 19 healthy individuals with a history of moderate hypercholesterolemia (9 females, 10 males, age 35-67 years).

Individuals administered orally 250 mg diatomaceous earth three-times daily during an 8 weeks observation period.

Serum concentrations of cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides levels were measured before study entry, every second week during the period of diatomaceous earth intake and 4 weeks after stop of intake.

Compared to baseline (285.8 +/- 37.5 mg/dl = 7.40 +/- 0.97 mM) diatomaceous earth was associated with a significant reduction of serum cholesterol at any time point, reaching a minimum on week 6 (248.1 mg/dl = 6.43 mM, -13.2% from baseline; p<0.001).

Also low–density lipoprotein cholesterol (week 4: p<0.05) and triglycerides levels decreased (week 2: p<0.05, week 4: p<0.01).

Four weeks after intake of diatomaceous earth was stopped, serum cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides still remained low and also the increase of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol became significant (p<0.05).

Diatomaceous earth, a byproduct, is capable of reducing blood cholesterol and positively influencing lipid metabolism in humans. Placebo-controlled studies will be necessary to confirm our findings.
