… OK, OK … "A Blessing in Disguise"
With the current "Ag-gag" bill awaiting the Govenors signature here in Idaho and with the defeat of both proposition 37 in California and Proposition 522 in Washington State, you would think Americans would be giving up on the search for humanely raised, non GMO foods. Oh contraire, I think the informed populace is just catching it's stride!
Because we have foods that don't have to be labeled (yet) and un-natural animal production systems seeking protection from the eyes of the consumers who want to eat that food, I feel a lot of Americans are now searching out even more local, natural, Organic, sustainable products. In other words, not only are Americans trying to avoid GMO foods, they are also leaning away from regular conventionally raised foods because of the uncertainty of GMO's in everything. Consumers are turning to buy food from those they can trust…their local farmer.
Glyphosate has estrogenic properties and drives breast cancer proliferation, even in the parts-per-trillion range. Dr Huber found 25% kidney failure rates of the sugar cane field workers in Central American countries this last fall. Why would that be, sugar cane is not GMO. The growers are using Roundup (Glyphosate) to "dry off'" the cane after it has grown so it can be harvested in a timely fashion. Where will it all end?
After spending $70 Million dollars in California and Washington State, and with a new generation of evermore hazardous and outrageous Frankenfoods and crops, including GE salmon, apples and Agent Orange (2,4 D or dicamba-resistant) corn about to be approved by the Obama administration, where and how will it all end?
In December 2013 it comes out that all has been silent on the Arctic Apple front for more than a year while the initative was in front of the public. No sooner had voters defeated I-522, Washington State’s GMO labeling initiative, than lo and behold, the USDA announced it had opened its second and final comment period before deciding whether or not to deregulate the first GMO apple.
On Tuesday (April 29, 2014) this week, OCA political director Alexis Baden-Mayer was hauled off in handcuffs when she refused to end the Organic Consumers Association’s protest of illegally made changes to the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) policy for approving and removing non-organic materials from organics. … End of story? Not on your life.
If any of this bothers you, take some steps now to protect yourself and your family. Join GMO Free Idaho, plant a garden, visit the local farmers market or farmer, buy Organic, etc, etc., etc! The Environmental working Group's "Dirty Dozen" and "Clean Fifteen" should be printed out and attached to everyone's refrigerator!
